Boerjan Wildlife Area was purchased in 2003 from Allen and Virginia Boerjan.
The Boerjan Wildlife Area is a unique area within Mitchell County. This area is known for its cold-water trout stream named Turtle Creek. Trout streams and cold-water streams are very rare in this part of the state, due typically to our flat topography. The Mitchell county Conservation Board, along with other partners, has done a lot of work enhancing the stream with habitat projects, along with planting native grass and trees around the creek. This 73 acre property with a mixture of habitat types; consisting of timber, prairie, wetland, and the trout stream. The Iowa DNR stocks rainbow trout and brook trout. The stream also has natural reproducing brown trout in the stream. Boerjan Wildlife Area is also a very good place to find white-tail deer, ringneck pheasant, and multiply waterfowl species.
This 73 acre of native prairie and forest along Turtle Creek Trout stream is perfect for fishing and hunting.
